From a small tourist town at the foot of Pirin in just a few years, Bansko has become the most dynamically developing mountain resort in Bulgaria and entire Southeast Europe. In 2009, the first competition for the Alpine Ski World Cup took place here, and since 2011 these competitions have been held every winter season.

Not only do current stars in alpine sports and snowboarding take part, but they also visit the resort as advertisers and world-famous names from the coming years, including Hristo Stoichkov. One of the slopes is named after the world champion, the great Italian skier Alberto Tomba.

Sights

Numerous tourist routes allow visitors to admire nature with the magnificent sights of Pirin National Park – included in the list of UNESCO biosphere reserves.

Experienced mountaineers can get to know the beauties of Pirin if they take a two-day hike to Polezhan peak (2851 m). You can spend the night in one of the Pirin huts, and snowshoes during the winter are mandatory, as well as the presence of an experienced guide.

Every year the town hosts the summer jazz festival and many other cultural events.

The cultural and historical sights of the town attract many foreign tourist groups during their tours around the country.

The Holy Trinity Church, consecrated in 1835, has an incredibly beautiful wood-carved altar. It is also one of the symbols of Bansko. Other places of interest are the houses-museums of Neofit Rilski, Nikola Vaptsarov, Velyanova House, Bansko Art School with its permanent exhibition of icons, etc.
